Infrastructure of Sound/Sound of Infrastructure

The infrastructures in place to support music and sound are breaking. From streaming services depleting sales revenue to increased expenses of touring due to the cost-of-living crisis, musicians are finding it harder to make a livelihood. Despite these structural challenges, this has led to a huge amount of infrastructural innovation – from community radio stations to experiments using blockchain technology (e.g., NFTs). This project convenes a number of community partners, including festival promoters, radio station managers, and journalists to brainstorm and build solutions and paths forward for the future of music infrastructures in a two-day workshop.
